Facial skin care is vital throughout the year. Different weather patterns around the year have different effects on our skin. Skin care routine has to be altered every season to accommodate to the weather changes. Below are some basic facial skin care ideas to follow for each season.
Spring
After the cold winter has passed, it can be tempting to head out and enjoy the spring weather. Spring air is usually dry, and it can exacerbate sunburn. To protect your face from getting sunburn, applying sunscreen is an integral part of a good facial skin care regime. Use a light moisturizer and foundation with sunscreen. It beautifies, and at the same time prevents yourself from harmful sun rays as well. Cleanse your face more often, especially if you are prone to acne, as sweat from higher temperatures
Summer
Avoid sunburn during summer - this is the number one rule for facial skin care. Sunburn causes permanent skin damage and accelerates the ageing process. If you would like to have a tanned look, instead of sun tanning, go for a self-applied tan, a spray tan or tinted moisturizer. A tan from the sun poses high risks to your skin. Exfoliating your face is also vital in summer than at other times. Exfoliation gets rid of dull and dry skin, and prevents clogged pores which cause breakouts.
Fall
In fall, alter facial skin care routine to protect your face against harsh weather. Drink more water or herbal tea to keep your skin hydrated. As the weather turns cool, most think that taking long and hot baths or showers may help keep them warm. This may be true but it actually makes your skin dry rather than hydrate. If you still want to have hot baths, add sweet almond oil or jojoba to your bath. Apply moisturizer or use moisturizing shower milk thereafter. Use cleansers and other products that contain alcohol and peeling masks less frequently in order to maintain your skin's protective barrier.
Winter
Winter and cold conditions of the weather outside combined with artificial heating inside the house makes your skin dry. Moisturizing is more important than ever during winter. Switch to an oil-based moisturizer. A moisturizer which contains more oil creates a protective barrier and protects your skin against the harsh elements that winter brings. Before going out, apply moisturizer at least thirty minutes earlier to give your skin time to absorb. Do not lick your lips if you have chapped lips as this will make the problem worse. Use a moisturizing lip balm instead.
Altering the facial skin care regime according to the appropriate times of the year will ensure that you have great looking skin all year round. It is a matter of knowing how your skin works and how it will be affected by the weather conditions. After you know your skin behaviors, you will know how to circumvent any skin problems.
